iCommunication – AAC on iTech Devices
Technology in AAC is always changing. Never has this been truer than in the last year or so. In my role as the Senior Speech Pathologist at the Independent Living Centre of WA, I am required to stay up to date with current AAC technology. The WA community relies on the ILC Tech service to access information, advice and training on currently available speech generating devices. Since communication “Apps” such as Proloquo2Go and others have been developed, there has been a significant surge in the numbers of enquiries from parents, educators and therapists who want to find out more about this technology. In particular, there has been growing interest from families who have not considered AAC before and are interested in these devices as they are so mainstream, affordable and easy to obtain.
Kelly Moore is a Speech Pathologist with a special interest for working in AAC with clients of all ages and abilities. Kelly first worked in remote Western Australia as a sole clinician servicing towns in the East Kimberley. She then worked for a school age therapy service before joining her current employer, the Independent Living Centre (ILC) WA. Kelly is the Senior Speech Pathologist and coordinator of the ILC Tech team. In this role, Kelly works closely with her colleagues, to support the provision up to date information and advice about communication and other assistive technologies to the WA community.
