The Daisy Cookbook: How to make your own Accessible Digital Talking Books
Digital talking books (DTB) can take many forms and are available from many different places. Whilst the majority of readily accessible DTBs can be played on any equipment that can play an audio file, they lack the ability to truly navigate a book in the same way you can a physical book: by page, by bookmarks etc. The DAISY format provides this functionality and is used by talking book libraries worldwide including the Association for the Blind of Western Australia. But what if you want to create your own DTBs within your organisation quickly and effectively to share with other students or staff? Whilst there are many agencies that will provide this service, the tools to create your own DTBs are freely available. This presentation will walk through the DAISY format – what it is, when you might use it, how do you make a DAISY DTB and with what. Attendees will be provided with links to these available resources.
